Vögeli has expanded its Cradle-to-Cradle product family and is now offering a personalized set of Jass cards – widely regarded as Switzerland’s national card game. These cards are fully recyclable – and the same goes for their accompanying case as well.

“And the best part is that the personalized elements are not only on the back, as is usually the case, but the designs on the front can also be customized”, comments Renato Vögeli, Co-Managing Director of the family business with more than 100 years of history, in a statement. As an example, one deck shown in the presentation depicts the King with skis in his hands, while the Queen holds a ski helmet and the Jack has ski poles - all featuring a discreetly placed Swiss Ski Association logo.

These Jass playing cards are intended as promotional gifts that can be customized for a brand, company or association. “Older generations use the cards for playing Jass, while younger people take them to school to play games such as Gämschen, Schnip-Schnap, Zweier-Sidi or Bauernkrieg during breaktimes”, as Renato Vögeli explains further, before adding: “In this way, the cards are a promotional gift that can be widely used. Moreover, thanks to the environmentally friendly production and long lifespan, they make sense from a sustainability perspective as well”.

In 2018, Vögeli became the first printing firm in the world to manufacture its printed products in line with the Cradle-to-Cradle certification. As such, they all comply with the design principle for a genuine circular economy, in which products are designed so that their materials can be fully re-utilized as resources for new products after use. No waste is generated, with the materials used ultimately returned to the biological or technical life cycles instead of being consigned to landfill sites as waste. ce/mm
