Oxara AG is aiming to establish its cement-free mineral binders for circular and low-CO2 concrete products in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to a statement issued by the construction materials manufacturer based in Dietikon in the Swiss canton of Zurich, its plans will initially be centered on Dubai, which is seen as a rapidly developing urban center. Dubai’s construction market is characterized by high demand for construction materials alongside increasing volumes of mineral demolition waste.
In this context, Oxara does not simply intend to export its Oulesse products to the UAE. “The objective is therefore not necessarily to build an entirely separate production system”, Oxara writes, adding that: “It is to identify where existing assets, expertise and supply chains can support a new generation of circular construction materials.
At present, the company is working to agree the partnerships required for the production and use of Oulesse products in the UAE. For instance, the statement highlights ongoing discussions with the Dubai municipal authorities, among other aspects. In addition, Oxara is participating in a tender process in the hope of securing access to current and future construction and demolition material streams.
According to the statement, sustainable construction forms part of the UAE’s strategic direction. In terms of its operations in the UAE, Oxara is being supported by Prototypes for Humanity.
