FREITAG, the bag manufacturer with a focus on sustainable materials, opened its new store on June 12 in the Niederdorf district of Zurich, which is commonly known as “Dörfli”. Brothers Daniel and Markus Freitag began production of the company’s iconic F13 TOP CAT Messenger Bag back in 1993, taking inspiration from passing trucks on the Hardbrücke bridge in Zurich, as detailed in a statement.
FREITAG is guided by the principles of the circular economy and produces sustainable bags, accessories and clothing. The materials used by the company include used truck tarpaulins, empty PET bottles, discarded car seat belts and even bicycle inner tubes. The original F13 TOP CAT has been added to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
“Zurich is our cradle and our home. With the new store at Hirschenplatz, we are strengthening our roots in the heart of the city”, comments Janine Weiz-Bühler, Navigator at FREITAG, adding that: “For us, this location is more than a retail space: it’s a commitment to real encounters, to local design and, above all, to the people who share our values”.
FREITAG is set to celebrate its grand reopening on June 12 and 13. In addition to music and drinks, exclusive models will be presented, including the limited-edition F745 STRIP BAGS, which are only available until June 22. Moreover, a range of unique items in the typical Zurich colors of blue and white will be on offer across both of the new store’s opening days. ce/jh
