BioApply, headquartered at EPFL Innovation Park in Ecublens on the outskirts of the city of Lausanne in the Swiss canton of Vaud, and Ibi Plast, a company based near to Varese in the region of Lombardy in northern Italy, are set to turn their partnership that has been in place for more than 20 years into a more formal alliance. As BioApply, which was formed in 2006, has now announced, this alliance is designed to bring together Swiss excellence in the fields of compliance and marketing with Italian expertise in industrial manufacturing, with the aim of strengthening the partners’ presence in the European market for compostable bags of all types used the retail sector and for refuse sacks.
According to BioApply, this new chapter in the companies’ strategic partnership comes at a pivotal moment for the European packaging industry. Demand for high-grade, compliant, traceable and durable sustainable packaging has reached a record high on account of the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). With their alliance, BioApply and Ibi Plast are responding to this need by offering a fully integrated platform that, as the company explains, merges “deep regulatory expertise with industrial-scale production”.
“By combining our Swiss-led sustainability trust platform and the transparency of our Respect-Code system with the advanced industrial infrastructure of IbiPlast, we are creating a unique entity that provides a comprehensive risk reduction layer for our clients across Switzerland, Austria (only shopping bags), France, Benelux, and the Nordic region”, BioApply founder and CEO Frédéric Mauch is quoted as saying.
As Ibi Plast CEO Aldo Reguzzoni underlines, together the two companies are in a position to “serve the largest retail groups, public sector clients as well as brands and smaller retail businesses, from our manufacturing hub near Milan, supported by the innovation and compliance center of BioApply at EPFL, Lausanne”. ce/mm
