Proxipel inaugurates first mobile pellet production unit

On June 18, Proxipel SA put the first Proxiflex unit into operation at the production site of Lémanpellet in Gimel in the Swiss canton of Vaud. According to a statement, Proxiflex is the world’s first completely mobile pellet production unit.

The mobile Proxiflex unit is installed directly at biomass production sites, where it processes wood and agricultural residues into pellets on-site. The aim is to eliminate the need to transport these raw materials and therefore avoid the associated CO2 emissions. Proxiflex allows previously underused local resources to be used to supply a regional energy cycle, which aligns with the decarbonization goals pursued by municipalities.

The facility in Gimel was inaugurated in the presence of nearly a hundred guests. “Proxipel is showing that the energy transition is no longer just a goal: Thanks to innovations that strengthen our energy self-sufficiency and leverage our regions’ resources, it is already well underway”, comments Vassilis Venizelos, member of the cantonal government of Vaud, in the statement.

Katrin Vetsch highlighted the significant potential of the development. “This innovation perfectly illustrates the potential for the local, circular and efficient use of wood as a resource”, as the President of Holzenergie Schweiz, the umbrella organization for the Swiss wood energy sector, explains. She further noted that Proxiflex represents “a concrete lever for strengthening regional energy self-sufficiency while at the same time contributing to the fight against climate change”.

Two further mobile Proxiflex units have already been ordered for 2026. Six machines are planned for 2026, followed by 15 in 2027. The company intends to focus on the Swiss and French markets. Proxipel SA is based in Le Vaud in the Swiss canton of Vaud. ce/gp
