Recoplast AG and UpBoards GmbH are hosting a special open day event in Gretzenbach in the Swiss canton of Solothurn that will feature a tour of their production facilities and a seminar on innovative recycled materials. According to a statement, the two companies – which belong to BOXS AG – work together, enabling them to leverage their combined expertise across the entire plastic recycling value chain. “We will show how innovative recycling solutions are created: from processing plastic waste to developing new products,” BOXS co-founder and Chairman of the Board Raphael Markstaller is quoted as saying.

The event marks the 10th anniversary of the BOXS Group, which acquired Recoplast in fall 2025 and successfully merged it with UpBoards. Both companies process plastic waste. UpBoards develops and manufactures sustainable recycled panels using a patented process that utilizes 100 per cent mixed plastic waste, while Recoplast’s projects focus on recycling plastic waste and plastic by-products. By fostering closed-loop projects, they help support a circular economy among their customers.

In addition to offering insights into on-site production, the open day aims to broaden perspectives on innovative approaches in the circular economy. Among the speakers, Reto Eggimann from the Hightech Zentrum Aargau will discuss developments in the canton. Christian Rytka from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), who is group leader for polymer processing and sustainability at the university’s Windisch campus in the canton of Aargau, will present practical examples from Swiss companies in collaboration with the FHNW. He will focus on comparing mechanical and chemical recycling.

Rémy Stoll will talk about how recycled plastics achieve consistent quality for industrial applications. The managing director of the KATZ Plastics Training and Technology Center in Aarau will also explain how recycled plastics achieve industrial-grade quality, making them equivalent to virgin materials.

Because the anniversary event also aims to strengthen the national plastics circular economy ecosystem, another focus is on personal interaction among participants throughout the Q&A session that will follow the keynote presentations, during the production tour, or at the concluding reception with refreshments. The program, including a registration link, is available here. The event will be held in German. ce/yvh
